DemoSATH project successfully installs the floating offshore wind turbine in open sea waters

Saitec Offshore Technologies, in collaboration with RWE Renovables, have reached a new milestone within the DemoSATH project with the installation of the 2 MW DemoSATH floating offshore wind turbine in the BIMEP (Biscay Marine Energy Platform) test area, located 2 MN from the cantabrian coast. This project has recently been joined by the Japanese electricity company Kansai Electric Power Co. (KEPCO) as a strategic partner and co-investor to promote the commercialization of this pioneering solution and consolidate a model of sustainable energy production.

Windstaller Alliance has carried out the installation of the wind turbine, completing the mooring in an 85 meters deep area. The next phase of the project will entail completing the connection of the dynamic cable that will allow to export the clean energy generated by the force of the wind to the electrical grid on land.

For two years the SATH (Swinging Around Twin Hull) technology, a floating platform concept for offshore wind turbines, will be tested in the BIMEP area to analyse its operability and maintenance requirements. In addition, the project also contemplates the study of metoceanographic conditions in the high seas and the coexistence of the platform with the environment and other maritime activities.

MSM Offshore has contributed to this project in terms of maritime safety, marking the floating platform of the offshore wind turbine with its lighting equipment: two self-contained LED lanterns with integrated GPS, Modbus network communication protocol for monitoring and AIS type 1 system, which will guarantee safe navigation around this area.

From MSM Offshore we are proud to have participated in a project where innovation and sustainability have come together to achieve a more sustainable future thanks to offshore wind energy.
